Felt Rose Mini Frame

I had this mini frame which was cute but it had no pop to it.  So, I grabbed some felt and decided to make a mini felt roses and attach it around the frame and I think it turned out beautifully ...

Here's a quick tutorial on how I did it...

Cut small felt circles.  Does not need to be perfect circles.
Fold circle in half and start rolling from one end.  Glue together.
Glue onto the frame.

See ... wasn't that easy?  Now it has some "pop" to it!

How to make T-Shirt Yarn

Have you seen those fettuccini or zpaghetti yarns?  Have you seen their prices? Wow! All they are are just jersey fabric cut into strips.  Jersey fabric = t-shirts!  So if you have t-shirts you are no longer using, here's a great way to recycle them!  Make them into t-shirt yarns to knit or crochet with.  How much fun will that be!  All the things you can create!!

Here is a link to a fantastic tutorial on how to make t-shirt yarn by MaDonna Sheehy from Shirts.com.  http://www.shirts.com/blog/p-487-DIY-t-shirt-yarn.aspx

Toxic Free DIY Dryer Sheets

Hello again!

So besides crafting, I'm also really into the a natural way of living.  I try (keyword - TRY) to avoid chemicals as much as possible.  It's not easy as it is in everything around us, but I try to minimize the exposure to it for myself and the kids.

Well, I found this recipe for a DIY dryer sheet that is chemical free ... so natural, and it is supposed to leave your clothes softer and smelling better (depending on the essential oil scent you use).  I haven't tried this myself but it intrigued me enough to share it with you and I do plan on making it and trying it out.  If you try it before me, can you let me know how it worked for you?

You'll save so much money with homemade dryer sheets! #eco:

I'm a new addict to crochet - Slouch Hat

Ok.  So on my last post (back in October - eek), I showed you guys Star Wars crochet items.  Well, guess who got hooked on all things crochet.  Me!!!  Now I also hoard yarn.  Oh my!  It's fun to crochet but truth be told, I'm still inpatient. I have no interest in making huge blankets or clothes ... takes too long.  I like something that finishes up quick and with crochet, really, nothing is quick.  So maybe I should say, works up quicker.  So I make smaller items which I will be sharing with you.

Here's one of the first bigger, but quicker projects that I made.  It's a slouch hat for my lil' man.  I think it turned out pretty well for a newbie.  What do you think?

Thanks for looking!  Feel free to comment but please be nice! :-)

Star Wars and Crochet - Who knew?

So crochet is not my expertise and Star Wars is not my ultimate thing but after hanging out with my friend Kim, who is an expert at crochet and a large fan of Star Wars, I'm starting to get the bug.  So I stalked it out on Pinterest and look at some of the fun stuff I found!!!

Found these cute character creations here.

Oh I need this Death Star Cushion!  Anyone want to make me one?  :-)  Instructions are here.

And these lightsabers!  I'm just dying over here!  Wow!  Find the pattern here.

Can't forget about this guy!  What a cutie!  He's here.

Of course, let's not forget all the main characters.  Look how awesome!  There was no tutorial for these that I found but you could probably buy the pattern off of etsy somewhere.  Mergirl had made these and was showing it off on her flickr page here.

I now want so badly to learn how to do crochet on the next level and watch all the episodes of Star Wars before the new movie comes out this December.  If only I didn't need to sleep, I MIGHT find the time to learn and make all these wonderful guys!

It's a Perler Bead thing!

As I was perusing Pinterest, I came across a few Perler Bead artwork. It totally brought me back almost 30 years when I was first introduced to perlers. I found a large bag of these colorful beads in the scout shop of the headquarters of the Boy Scouts of America where my grandfather worked. I had no clue what they were but the colors and the fact they were beads attracted me so I bought them. Flash forward 30 years and I still love them like I did back then, I just forgot. So thanks Pinterest for reminding me and giving me that warm feeling as I remember my wonderful grandfather, Godofredo Neric.

Inspired by the great perler artists on Pinterest, I started with this...

Yup! My inner geek is showing. So then I tried these...

Then I thought about my lil' man's teacher, so made these...

Then I thought about my good friend who sews...

Then my lil' man saw a creeper with a Christmas hat and asked for one ....

Hmmm... Christmas is coming! Let's make ornaments but the geek kind...

Which then lead to more ornies...

Even Minion ornies...

And finally, since football season is coming, a few Baltimore Ravens perler ornies with a bonus owl...

I sure did have fun with these! No worries. I'm not done yet. I want to make some splatoon squid earrings and ornies, a few Dr. Who, maybe some Avengers, and Adventure Time also. One day I will attempt to make a large Perler bead mural wall art of Jeremy Renner. *sigh*
